Westfields FC End of Season Dinner
Friday, May 11, 2018
Westfields Football Club held their 51st Annual Players’ Presentation of the Year Awards Evening at Burghill Valley Golf Club on Friday evening and Kane Kahaki was awarded the Midland Football League Player of the Year trophy.
Kahaki had played in 48 league and cup matches through the season and had given fantastic service.
In presenting the award, Manager Andy Bevan commented that Kahaki had played in three different positions and had given fantastic displays throughout the season. His enthusiasm, commitment and will to win inspired other players as well and he was a worthy winner.
Other awards went to Carlos Moreira who was the Young Player of the Year, Mark Magee was the Golden Boot leading goalscorer and Craig Jones was the players’ vote for the Players’ Player of the Year. The Clubman of the year was Paul Boulton who was the Manager of the HFA Premier Division side.
Andy Bevan, the Manager stated that “Whilst we finished in a comfortable mid-table position people should not lose track of the fact that we played in 6 FA Cup ties again this year to follow on the tradition of the previous year when we reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, having played in 8 FA Cup matches. The side also reached the Fifth Round of the FA Vase, losing at home to Hampshire-based side Hamble FC and at times looked as though we could hold on to a top six position but the strength of the league and playing catch-up throughout the season due to weather and cup successes took its toll at the end.”
However he could look forward to a new season ahead when it was hoped that Westfields again would be up amongst the challengers for a Midland Premier Division promotion place.
Andy Morris, the Chief Executive of the Club, thanked all the committee, players, staff and in particular the sponsors allpay Ltd, Metclad, the Hereford Times and Sodexho. Andy commented “Our sponsors have been of fantastic support to us again this year and I feel that we have given them great value for money in the coverage that we are able to attract both on match days and now through social media.”
Chairman John Morgan also praised the club, not only it’s First Team, but said that the success of the U16s who had won the HFA Youth Cup beating Pegasus in the final and our Hereford Premier Division side who had finished runners-up in that division and only missed out on the championship on goal difference, had played a big part in the season in keeping Westfields right up there.
Morgan commented that Westfields was a traditional family club in the community with junior sides and a senior side to be proud of.
Andy Morris, Chief Executive, finalised the evening saying that Westfields were a unique club with quality facilities, a loyal and hard-working committee and a good fan base who had been very supportive again this season.
