Boldmere St Michaels v Westfields

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, March 14, 2015

Boldmere St Michaels 1 - Palmer (9mins)
Westfields 3 - Corbett (4mins,18 mins), Boyle (22mins)

First Half goals from Luke Corbett and Tom Boyle was enough for Westfields to return home from Boldmere with all three points.

An uneven pitch made it hard for Fields to play how they desired, but it was Fields who grabbed a foot hold on the game as the piled early attacking pressure on the Mikes back four. Four minutes in and they were in front courtesy of Luke Corbett. The tall Striker found himself 18 yards from goal before sending a low shot bobbling into the far corner.

Against the run of play Boldmere strike level. James Febery was adjudged to have handled the ball after it bounced up and hit him inside the Penalty area. Boldmere’s Number 6 stepped up to fire the penalty past Rivers.

Fields continued with their attacking pressure with Central Midfield partners Matt Reeve & Craig Jones playing a major role in going forward with their pin point passes. The pressure finally paid off when Fields won a free kick in the centre of the park, a Craig Jones free kick found the head of Joel Edwards who headed the ball back across goal for Corbett who nodded home from two yards out.

A minute later and Fields were 3-1 up, Luke Corbett went one on one with the Mikes stopper Jenkins before getting held up and rolling the ball back to Boyle who side stepped into space before squeezing a low driven shot into the Keepers near post.

Moments before the Half Time
interval Cuss had a chance to kill the game off, but disappointingly sent his half volley straight into the path of the Boldmere Keeper who made an excellent save to keep it out.

A mundane Second Half saw the Mikes introduce energetic forward Kieran Clarke in order to get back into the game, this nearly worked when they won an early free kick. Fortunately for Westfields Boldmere sent the resulting free kick just wide of the near post.

Boldmere continued in their attempt to get back into the game, a series of corners putting pressure on the Fields back four, but they lead to nothing.

After an impressive First Half performance Fields failed to put any chances through on Jenkins in the Mikes goal. This was until Fields live wire Jamie Cuss went through into the box before producing a good save from Jenkins.

Fields continued to push forward in order to kill the game off, but were finding it hard to conjure up the right chance.

Boldmere went close minutes before the end but saw a powerful drive fly over the bar via a deflection. A few more half chances failed to materialise into a goal as Fields saw out the game to claim all three points.
