Boldmere St Michaels v Westfields

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, January 19, 2019

Boldmere St Michaels 0
Westfields 6 - Thomas, Miller, Molyneux, Mills 2, Rawlings

Westfields travelled to Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday in search of an away win and to try and gain revenge for the 2-1 home defeat Boldmere inflicted on Westfields just before Christmas.

Westfields responded in fine style with a resounding 6-0 away win led by 2 opportunist goals by new striker John Mills.

The former Hereford striker led the line in style and was involved in the build-up play on several of the other goals as Westfields looked very sharp on the 3G Boldmere pitch.

In fact it was Mills who almost put Westfields ahead in the early stages but only the home keeper prevented the goal with a brave save at the striker’s feet.

However, Westfields took the lead early on when neat interchanging movement between Mills and Ben Miller laid on a chance for Aidan Thomas who swept the ball home to put Westfields 1-0 ahead.

Boldmere came back at Westfields and almost drew level but Sam Gwynne cleared off the line at the far post and then Gwynne was involved again with a fine tackle to prevent Boldmere getting in a shot on goal as they looked dangerous and looked to be drawing level.

However, right on the stroke of half time Westfields went 2-0 ahead, again with good build-up play which saw Ben Miller sweep the ball home from the edge of the penalty area into the top corner to put Westfields into a fine 2-0 half time lead.

After the break Jamie Molyneux wasted little time in increasing Westfields’ lead when he cut in from the right hand side and fired low into the far corner of the net to put Westfields 3 up before John Mills got in on the scoring act when he too pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area and slammed it past the home keeper.

Westfields were really on top now and enjoying some excellent football and substitute Ben Hayes put over a fine cross from the right which Sam Rawlings got on the end of and hit a low shot past the home keeper to put Westfields into a commanding 5-0 lead.

Boldmere still had opportunities to get a goal and twice Keiron Blackburn made good saves from close range before Westfields went and scored a sixth goal when danger-man Mills was on the spot to seize an opportunity to make it 6-0 in the dying minutes.

Westfields now have a free week this Saturday before 2nd February when they travel to Stourport for the local derby against Stourport Swifts.
