Bromsgrove Sporting v Westfields

MATCH REPORT - Tuesday, October 10, 2017

Bromsgrove Sporting 2 - Cowley 58, Bunn 74
Westfields 1 - Magee 7

Attendance 631

Westfields travelled to Bromsgrove Sporting in the Midland Football League last night and suffered a 2-1 defeat to the title chasers when 2 wonder goals from Bromsgrove Sporting in the second half dented Westfields hopes of pulling off an away win.

Westfields had taken an early lead when Aidan Thomas worked his way forward and set up a great chance for Mark Magee who seized the opportunity from 12 yards to put Westfields ahead with a low shot.

Westfields then had further chances when Aidan Thomas and the lively Jamie Molyneux created opportunities but they couldn’t force a second goal.

Bromsgrove also enjoyed a fair share of attacking play in the first half but were thwarted by some excellent defending by twin centre-halves Phil Glover and Matt Sysum who both defended stoutly.

In the second half and with a 600-strong crowd roaring on the home side Bromsgrove came more into the game and drew level with a thundering 20 yard shot from Jason Cowley who picked up the ball on the left flank, cut inside and unleashed a tremendous 20 yard short which flew into the top of the net, giving Keiron Blackburn no chance.

Bromsgrove then took up the running and created further opportunities and Blackburn produced a full-length save at the foot of the post to prevent Bromsgrove taking the lead while at the other end the Bromsgrove keeper saved well from a Jamie Molyneux effort.

In an end-to-end encounter Bromsgrove snatched the lead in the 78th minute when Robbie Bunn broke forward and unleashed a 20 yard shot which flew in at the near post, beating the diving Blackburn to put Bromsgrove ahead.

Bromsgrove then stepped up their game and Blackburn palmed away a dangerous cross before Kahaki cleared off the Westfields goal-line as Bromsgrove looked likely to increase their lead.

In a grandstand finish Westfields threw men forward in an effort to draw level and Bromsgrove survived 2 or 3 very hectic moments in goal-mouth scrambles and were delighted to hear the final whistle with 3 valuable points to keep them up in 2nd place and keep their championship aspirations alive.
