WESTFIELDS SO UNLUCKY
Westfields were beaten 1-0 away at second in the table Coalville Town on Saturday in an exciting MFA league game which Westfields never deserved to lose. Westfields, who had beaten Coalville 1-0 at allpay.park earlier in the season, had the chances to have won the game and made a push for a top six place but the Leicestershire side held out for a slender 1-0 win and really look strong contenders to take the runners-up spot behind runaway leaders Barwell. Westfields still could cause problems to the top 4 places as they face Stratford at allpay.park on Saturday and Tipton Town away later in the month and these two sides are both above Westfields in the table.
Coalville should have taken an early lead when Terry Green, the Westfields’ defender, scythed down Lee Miveld but the Coalville striker then missed the resultant penalty by firing wide.
Westfields were then a goal down in the 14th minute with a hotly disputed goal when Coalville forced a corner and when the ball came into the penalty area keeper Jon Pugh appeared to be bundled out of position and Matt Gardner, signed by Coalville this week from Stratford Town, slammed home the ball to put the Leicestershire side ahead.
Westfields then had a great chance to equalise but Danny Moon fired wide after being put clean through by Richard Kear.
Jamie Addis then had a chance but his effort was brilliantly saved by the Coalville keeper as Westfields went in 1-0 down at the break.
After the interval Westfields enjoyed a good 20 minute spell when good work by Roy Jordan opened up the home defence but Westfields could not force an equaliser. Westfields’ manager then changed Jordan and Paul Casey for Sam Hunt and Jamie Cuthbertson in an effort to produce an equaliser but the big Coalville defence held out despite Westfields’ efforts as Westfields were left pointless with just one away win in their last six journeys.
