WESTFIELDS SPOIL COALVILLE PARTY
Westfields recorded their best away MFA League win of the season when they travelled to FA Vase finalists Coalville Town on Saturday. Coalville will be at Wembley on 8th May in the final of the FA Vase and had beaten Kings Lynn away last Saturday and were returning to celebrate in front of their own supporters but Westfields spoiled the party when 2nd place Coalville found Westfields in top form.
Westfields got off to a dream start when in only the 2nd minute Jamie Addis put over a fine cross and Mark Davis nipped in front of the home keeper to head home and put Westfields into an early lead.
Westfields were creating good chances early on and Jamie Cuss had a chance but his first-time shot was miss-hit then Mark Davis was not far away with a driving header.
However, Coalville pulled back an equaliser when Phil Glover misplaced a headed back pass to Jamie Moore in the Westfields’ goal and Moore then got in a tangle and was dispossessed by Jerome Murdock and when the ball came into the penalty area Joel Edwards was penalised for a challenge on Matt Moore and Coalville were awarded a penalty and Callum Woodward dispatched the penalty to put the two sides level.
Jamie Moore in the Westfields goal then made a spectacular save to prevent Jerome Murdock putting Coalville ahead then the Westfields’ keeper pulled off a superb one-handed save to prevent Matt Moore and then on the stroke of half-time Moore was again the hero as he saved at point-blank range as Murdock got past Glover but Moore reacted superbly with a brilliant save as the teams went in at the break all square.
After the interval, Westfields replaced Phil Glover with Scott Jackson, and Sam Harrison replaced Bobby Aldrich as Westfields began to get forward and create more opportunities.
Westfields then snatched the lead when Mark Davis seized on a hesitant Coalville defence and laid on a pass to Jamie Cuss and the lively midfielder took the chance to side-foot Westfields in front in the 67th minute.
Coalville then in response hit back and laid siege on the Westfields’ goal as Scott Jackson twice headed away and then Joel Edwards made a tremendous tackle on Murdock as Coalville went all out for an equaliser.
Moore then saved bravely, then Dan Price cleared a Coalville attack out of the Westfields’ 6 yard box as Coalville mounted pressure.
Westfields’ defence stood firm to deny Coalville an equaliser and gained a memorable win over a side who will be playing at Wembley on 8th May in the FA Vase and are still in the Championship race for the MFA title.
