WESTFIELDS RACE THROUGH IN FA CUP REPLAY - THOMAS SLAMS FOUR IN SUPERB PERFORMANCE

Westfields went through to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup last night and earned themselves a home tie on Saturday 24th August against Lutterworth Town when they gave a non-stop end-to-end performance to overcome visiting North-West Counties Premier Division side Congleton Town 4-1 in a replay.

After drawing their FA Cup tie at Congleton on Saturday 1-1 Westfields knew that they were in for a hard battle but Aidan Thomas and Craig Jones who both missed the trip to Congleton on Saturday were brought into the side and both were instrumental in providing Westfields with a passage through to the next round.

In fact Thomas made it an FA Cup tie to remember and probably put himself into the goal-scoring charts with an individual performance which saw him score all the Westfields goals in what was a tremendous cup tie appearance.

Thomas opened the scoring in the 35th minute when he cut in from the left-hand side after good approach work and slotted low past the advancing keeper, Craig Ellison, to give Westfields a 1-0 interval lead.

After the break Westfields defended stoutly as the visitors tried to get into the game again but in the 57th minute Thomas put Westfields 2-0 ahead with a cracking drive which took a wicked deflection from the edge of the box.

Thomas then turned provider and put over a firm cross for Richard Greaves whose header clipped the top of the crossbar before Thomas scored his hat-trick in the 68th minute when he seized upon another opportunity to score low past the advancing keeper.

There were a few moments when Congleton came back into the game and Paul Speed and John Main both had opportunities which were well blocked by Ryan Green and Kane Kahaki before Thomas capped a superb performance in the 72nd minute when he seized on a superb through-ball from Craig Jones after good work by Matt Reeve and put the ball into the top corner of the net to give Westfields a commanding 4-0 lead.

However, the visitors would not lie down and they pulled back a consolation goal in the 86th minute through Emini Adegbenro who slotted home from close range.

Westfields left the field to applause from their supporters and earned themselves a home tie on Bank Holiday Saturday, 24th August, v Lutterworth Town.

The match was sponsored by Truland Construction, builders of Holmer, Hereford.
