DUNKIRK DOWNED AS FIELDS TRIUMPH
A long trip up to Nottinghamshire to face Dunkirk was made worthwhile after a last minute Tom Boyle strike earned Fields a 2-3 win and all 3 points.
Dunkirk started the liveliest of the two teams in the opening 10 minutes, getting in amongst the Fields back four and creating some half attacking chances. But it was Fields who took the lead in the 13th minute when Sam Gwynne surged forward down the right hand side before being taken out inside the box by a Dunkirk defender. Nathaniel Lewars stepped up to take the penalty before calmly side footing the ball past the Keeper.
Shortly after, Dunkirk nearly equalised when Former Hereford United Striker Danny Carey-Bertram sent his header agonizingly over the bar. 20 minutes into the First Half Fields went down to 10 men when Craig Jones was wrongly sent off for dissent, from what I understand the referee has misinterpreted what was said.
Nathaniel Lewars was a constant threat to the Dunkirk back four and on several occasions managed to find space to run into before making the Keeper pull off some clever saves.
Dunkirk equalized on the 33 minute mark, Danny Carey-Bertram picked up the ball up 25 yards from goal before unleashing a powerful shot which flew into the bottom corner.
This was a wake up call for 10 men Fields who pulled ahead just before Half Time Some great play by Gwynne and Lewars allowed Palmer to pick the ball up on the edge of the box unleashing a shot and bettering Carey-Bertram’s goal down the other end.
HALF TIME: DUNKIRK 1-2 WESTFIELDS
Straight after the break Dunkirk created two chances in quick succession, first Carey- Bertram ran onto a ball through before bringing a smart save from Gwynne, before Courtney Pitt saw his effort crash off the crossbar.
It was Fields turn to pile on the pressure as they saw a number of half chances cleverly dealt with by the Dunkirk back four.
Dunkirk pulled level on 77 minutes when the influential Nicholas Hawkins drilled the ball low into the box before seeing it creep into the far corner.
In the past two games Fields have had 4 players sent off against them, and this was Number 5 as Dunkirk’s Number 3 was sent off just seconds after picking up his first yellow card for an off the ball incident involving Fields Winger Carl Morgan.
With time ticking on and both teams down to 10 men both teams were throwing men forward looking for the win. But in injury time it was Fields who put the nail in the coffin for this game as Tom Boyle intelligently controlled Tom Brock’s pinpoint cross before firing his shot high and into the roof of the net.
This injury time winner was enough to see Westfields pick up all 3 points against tough opposition.
