Pre Season Friendly v Fairford Town

Westfields registered their first pre-season win when, after recording two draws, they won their 3rd friendly at allpay.park when they beat Hellenic League Premier Division side FAIRFORD TOWN 2-0.

On a beautifully prepared new allpay.park pitch the Westfields side got off to a good start when Lee Mussell shot inches wide then Paul Allam shot into the side netting from an acute angle.

The visitors had to defend well but Westfields broke the deadlock in the 20th minute when Lee Mussell chased a back pass and nipped in front of the keeper to lay on a goal-scoring chance but his shot was blocked but the ball rebounded to Mark Davis and he took the chance from 12 yards.

Westfields were then almost 2-0 ahead but Jamie Cuss saw his 20 yard pile-driver hit the cross bar.

The woodwork came to Fairford Town’s rescue again when Roy Jordan fired a 20 yard free-kick against the crossbar as Westfields pressed for a second goal.

Just before half-time Fairford had a great chance to draw level when Ashley Day brought down the visitors’ striker but Jon Pugh produced a brilliant flying save from the resultant penalty to keep Westfields 1-0 ahead at the break.

After the interval Westfields began to get forward and they increased their lead from the penalty spot when Jamie Cuss slotted home a penalty after Paul Allam had been upended.

Fairford kept plugging away but Tom Sparey was in fine form at the heart of the Westfields defence, while up front Westfields almost added a 3rd goal when Allam put over a cracking cross but substitute Paul Jones side-footed wide from 6 yards.

Both sides introduced fresh players in an end-to-end second half as Westfields played some confident football to win 2-0.
