Pre Season Friendly v Stourport Swifts

WESTFIELDS HOLD STOURPORT

Westfields travelled to Southern League Midland Division old rivals Stourport Swifts on Saturday for their second pre-season friendly and featured in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Walshes Meadow.

Westfields included new signings Joel Liversledge from Ludlow Town and keeper Adam Jones deputising for the injured Jon Pugh.

Westfields enjoyed the better of the early exchanges with Darryl Addis and Danny Hill both prominent up front.

Stourport almost snatched the lead in the 12th minute when Wes Joyce let fly from the edge of the box but Adam Jones reached smartly to turn the ball away for a corner.  Matt Morris then cleared off the Westfields line as Stourport enjoyed a brief spell before Westfields took the lead in the 17th minute when good work by Paul Allam and Jamie Edwards set up a chance for Danny Hill.  His first effort was parried by the Stourport keeper but Darryl Addis raced in to fire Westfields ahead.

Jamie Edwards nearly put Westfields 2 up when his clever chip shot sailed over the Stourport keeper before dropping wide of the post then just before the interval Liversledge put Carl Morgan free on the right but the winger saw his low drive flash into the side netting.

Just before the break Stourport drew level when Westfields failed to clear a right wing cross and the ball bounced nicely for Wes Joyce and he headed home the equaliser from 6 yards to go in level at the break.

After the interval Stourport began to get back on top and both Sam Harrison and Lee Mussell both got in saving tackles then Jones saved well at the foot of the post from the lively Joyce.

Westfields then regained the lead in the 70th minute when a long throw by Harrison was cleared by the Stourport defence but Paul Allam latched on to the clearance and fired in a power 20 yard shot into the roof of the net to put Westfields 2-1 ahead.

In a ding-dong battle Stourport hit back to equalise in the 82nd minute then with only 2 minutes left to play Wes Joyce missed a penalty after the Stourport winger had been sent tumbling by Westfields defender Matt Morris.  Joyce put his penalty high over the Westfields crossbar.
