Haughmond 1 - Hole
Westfields 2 - Hayes, Kahaki
WESTFIELDS WIN AWAY
Westfields recorded a fine 2-1 away win at Haughmond on Tuesday night against the West Midland League Champions who have been promoted to the Midland Football League.
On a beautifully prepared pitch Westfields got off to a cracking start and played some lovely flowing football and Aidan Thomas and Ben Hayes were both thwarted by the home keeper who made splendid saves to keep the home side in the game.
Westfields dominated the early stages and Craig Jones fired a fierce shot just wide of the post, then Kane Kahaki had an opportunity to head Westfields in front but again his header went wide.
After a goal-less first-half Westfields opened the scoring early in the second-half when Ben Hayes fired home from the edge of the box after a quickly taken left-wing corner by Craig Jones.
Westfields then had to withstand some pressure from the home side who came back well and Keiron Blackburn was in constant action before Haughmond drew level in the 78th minute through Steven Hole after Westfields had been caught out in midfield.
However, in a grandstand finish Westfields snatched all 3 points when Sam Gwynne floated in a fine free-kick and Kane Kahaki got up above the home defence to head home a dramatic late winner.
Westfields now go to AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup and next Wednesday, 23rd August, entertain old rivals Lye Town, kick-off 7.45pm at allpay.park.
