Heanor Town 4 -
Westfields 2 - Ham 2
WESTFIELDS LET THE LEAD SLIP TWICE AT HEANOR
Westfields suffered a 4-2 away defeat at Heanor Town on Saturday when they were looking to build on their impressive 1-1 away draw at Sporting Khalsa on the Tuesday night.
Westfields opened smartly and took a 13th minute lead when Chris Ham powerfully headed home a near post corner from Craig Jones to put the visitors ahead.
Westfields had 2 great opportunities to increase the lead before half time when Craig Jones lobbed the home keeper but the ball bounced agonisingly wide of the far post and then Jones was again thwarted by the home keeper who saved brilliantly at full stretch and then Ben Miller also had an opportunity but his powerful left foot drive was also brilliantly saved by the Heanor keeper.
Right on half time Heanor should have drawn level when a cross from the right eluded all the defenders but the Heanor striker fired agonisingly wide from 4 yards.
After the break Heanor immediately came back into the game and James Febery brought down the Heanor striker and Nathan Benger scored from the spot to put the 2 sides level.
However, Westfields immediately regained the lead when Chris Ham chased a long through ball and brilliantly controlled and then lobbed the advancing McCormack in the Heanor goal to put Westfields back in front at 2-1.
In a ding-dong battle Heanor drew level when Westfields failed to clear a left wing corner and the ball landed at the feet of Benger who rifled it home to put the 2 sides level at 2 a-piece.
Westfields then pushed up in an effort to regain the lead and at times left the rear guard exposed and when the Heanor striker went through and rode 2 tackles the ball landed nicely and his shot from the edge of the box cannoned in off the post to put Heanor 3-2 ahead.
Westfields were now chasing the game and pushed up in an effort to draw level but right in the last minute Heanor made the points safe with a 4th goal which again was scored on the counter-attack to leave Westfields with just 4 Midland Football League wins in the last 14 league matches.
Westfields now have 2 home games - on Wednesday night Coventry United visit allpay.park, kick-off 7.45pm, and then on Saturday Coventry Sphinx visit allpay.park in what will be 2 vital matches as Westfields bid to stay in touch with the top 3 clubs.
