Highgate United v Westfields

MATCH REPORT - Wednesday, April 19, 2017

Highgate United 4 - Adaggio 4, Brown 28, 37, 84
Westfields 0 -

Attendance 87

Highgate United gained full revenge for the 7-0 drubbing they had at allpay.park early in the season when they trounced Westfields 4-0 at Highgate last night in a Midland Football League match.

Highgate were ready and waiting for Westfields and took an early lead in the 4th minute when Marco Adaggio scored with a clever lob shot after Westfields had failed to deal with a through ball.

Westfields could have hit back and Aidan Thomas shot into the side netting but then Highgate increased their lead in the 29th minute when danger-man Lei Brown increased their lead.

Westfields then had a great chance to pull back a goal when Richard Greaves went clean through on goal but he lobbed the ball gleefully into the hands of the home keeper.

This miss proved fatal as 5 minutes later Highgate broke away again and Lei Brown increased the lead to 3-0 with a crisp shot through a ruck of players to give Highgate a convincing 3-0 lead.

Westfields had little answer to Highgate in a devastating first-half display in which the home club played some cracking football using the wide pitch to their advantage.

After the break Westfields re-shuffled their side and gave a better disciplined display to tighten their defence and look better up front when Bunn in the Highgate goal produced a flying save to stop Craig Jones on 2 occasions and then kept out also an Aidan Thomas shot.

Westfields looked as though they had restored some pride with the second-half performance until the dying minutes when Lei Brown was allowed time in the penalty area to turn amongst the Westfields defence and fire high into the net to gain his hat-trick and give Highgate a 4-0 win.

On Saturday Westfields travel to relegated Tividale and the following Saturday play their last home game of the season when they entertain Walsall Wood who are still in relegation trouble.

On Saturday the 29th, being the last home game of the season, supporters will be given the opportunity to vote for their Supporters’ Player of the Season when the presentation will take place after the game on the pavilion steps.
