Westfields 1 - Kingsford
WESTFIELDS PIPPED AT LONG EATON
Westfields were beaten 2-1 away at Long Eaton in the Midland Football League Premier Division on Saturday when despite a hard-working performance Westfields’ depleted side returned home point-less.
Westfields were without the influential Craig Jones, who was ruled out with injury and is likely to miss now the remainder of the season, while striker Mark Magee was also ruled out with a one-match suspension.
However, Westfields brought in youngsters Kingsford Adjei and Seth Antwi into the squad and they performed admirably although Westfields suffered 3 more injuries when Brad Williams, James Febery and Kane Kahaki were all injured during the game and limped off to be replaced.
After a goal-less first half when both defences stood firm Long Eaton broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when they reacted quickly from a free kick and went through to score past Alex Harris who up to that point had provided Westfields with a safe pair of hands with a number of impressive stops.
Westfields then came back strongly and Phil Glover rattled the Long Eaton woodwork with a fierce header but then Long Eaton broke away and beat the Westfields off-side trap to go 2-0 ahead.
Westfields would not give in and came back strongly and Kingsford Adjei deservedly got a goal from his hard-working performance to provide a grandstand finish in the last 5 minutes when Westfields threw caution to the wind in an effort to draw level.
Despite several corners and free kicks Westfields could not break down the Long Eaton defence and force an equaliser which they really did deserve.
Westfields now face another busy week with a trip to Shepshed Dynamo on Tuesday, the return match at home on Thursday with Shepshed Dynamo and then on Saturday they face their final home Midland Football League match of the season when Rugby Town come to allpay.park. The following Tuesday Westfields make their last trip of the season away to Coventry United to complete their 2017/2018 fixtures.
On Saturday at the home match v Rugby Town, Westfields will invite all the supporters to vote for their Supporters’ Player of the Year Award and the award will be made after the game to the Westfields Supporters’ Player of the Year on the steps of the pavilion to mark the end of the home fixtures.
