MATCH REPORT - Saturday, December 16, 2017

Quorn 3 -
Westfields 3 - Hayes, Magee, Molyneux

WESTFIELDS SHARE SIX GOAL THRILLER

Westfields travelled to Quorn on Saturday and drew 3-3 in an action-packed end-to-end Midland Football League game.

Westfields, who had beaten Quorn 6-0 at allpay.park three weeks earlier, did not have things their own way on Saturday and had to come from behind three times to force a draw and earn an away point.

Quorn took the lead mid-way through the first half when Matt Sysum was penalised for a foul in the penalty area and Quorn scored from the spot to put the Leicestershire side ahead.

However, before the break Westfields drew level with a sweet move down the left-hand side when Aidan Thomas got free, crossed to the far post and Ben Hayes raced in to fire home a low shot to put the two sides level at the break.

After the interval Quorn took the lead when Westfields failed to clear a right-wing corner and the ball bounced nicely for the Quorn central defender who fired the ball high into the net from six yards.

However, back came Westfields and they equalised from the penalty spot when Aidan Thomas had a cross-shot handled in the box and Mark Magee tucked away the penalty to put the two sides level.

Back came Quorn and they took the lead with a sloppy goal when again from a goal-mouth scramble Phil Glover in trying to clear the ball saw his clearance hit a Quorn attacker and the ball rebounded into the bottom corner of the net to give Quorn the lead.

However, back came Westfields in an end-to-end action-packed game and they snatched an equaliser when Jamie Molyneux swept the ball home from twelve yards to earn Westfields a point.

Earlier in the game Westfields should have been two or three ahead from the start when Aidan Thomas and Molyneux both had great opportunities, along with Craig Jones, to have opened the scoring but chances went awry with poor finishing.

Westfields now face a busy period of four home games over the Christmas and Bank Holiday period when on Saturday they entertain Loughborough University, on Boxing Day they entertain Shawbury and then on 30th December they host the league leaders Sporting Khalsa, with the first game of the New Year, 6th January, being their FA Vase 4th Round Cup tie when Hamble Club from Southampton are the visitors to allpay.park.
