WESTFIELDS HIT RACING CLUB WARWICK FOR SIX
Westfields raced into the third round of the Midland Football League Cup last night with an emphatic 6-2 away victory over Division One side Racing Club Warwick.
Westfields travelled over to Warwick and wasted no time in opening the scoring when Keanu Cooper volleyed home from just inside the penalty area to give Westfields a dream start in only the 5th minute.
Westfields, playing with the strong attack of Molyneux and Magee, broke well but the home side drew level with a goal from Ben McKay who seized on an opportunity after a shot had initially hit the bar and rebounded nicely to him.
However, Westfields had soon restored their lead when Molyneux brilliantly side-footed home a corner that had caught the home side unawares.
Westfields then dominated the remainder of the half with good attacking play in which Carlos Moreira and Ben Hayes were causing havoc down both flanks. Moreira then provided Mark Magee with the opportunity to make it 3-1 and then Magee put Westfields into an unassailable lead just before the interval with the 4th Westfields goal with a tremendous finish from an acute angle.
After the break Westfields raced into a 5-1 lead when Moreira, who had a fine game, made it 5-1 and then the youngster put Westfields 6-1 ahead when he played a neat one-two with Molyneux on the edge of the box to go through to beat the advancing Warwick keeper.
Westfields then brought on substitutes George Hayes and Lewis Fletcher and Warwick maintained their interest in the game with a late consolation goal in the 86th minute.
Westfields now go forward into the third round of the Midland League Cup and play old rivals Romulus away in the next round.
This Saturday Westfields are at home to Romulus in the FA Vase second round, kick-off 3pm at allpay.park.
Westfields have been drawn away at Wellington in the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup quarter final tie and the date is yet be announced but it will be prior to Christmas.
