Rocester v Westfields

MATCH REPORT - Tuesday, April 10, 2018

Rocester 2 - Graves 2
Westfields 4 - Thomas 3, Hainault

Westfields made their longest trip of the season with a 220 mile round trip to Rocester last night and came home with the 3 points following an excellent 4-2 away win over relegation-threatened Rocester.

Westfields had to endure a 3 hour journey with the M5 out of action but wasted no time in attacking the home side despite a late kick-off.

Aidan Thomas shot Westfields ahead in only the 5th minute when he got on the end of a perfect through pass from Craig Jones to slot the ball past Rocester keeper Charlie Wood.

Five minutes later the same combination worked again as Thomas raced clear of the off-side trap to beat Wood on a one-on-one situation to put Westfields into a 2-0 lead.

However, the home side came back strongly and a smart move down the left-hand side ended with Rocester striker Graves toe-poking the ball high into the net past Keiron Blackburn.

However, in an end-to-end game Westfields restored their 2 goal advantage when again danger-man Aidan Thomas outpaced the Rocester defence to slot home his hat-trick just before the interval.

After the break relegation-threatened Rocester came out of the blocks and scored within 2 minutes of the restart when danger-man Graves flicked home a near-post corner to bring the Romans back into the game.

Westfields then defended strongly with captain Kane Kahaki in outstanding form alongside James Febery and twice they headed clear dangerous situations.

Westfields then went 4-2 ahead on the hour with a sweet move down the right-hand flank when again danger-man Craig Jones provided a perfect pass and Alex Hainault swept the ball home to put Westfields 4-2 ahead.

Charlie Wood then in the Rocester goal made 2 splendid saves, one from Craig Jones and one from substitute Mark Magee, but then in the final 10 minutes Rocester threw everything at the Westfields defence and Kahaki and Sam Plane both headed away dangerous free-kicks as Westfields defended stoutly and maintained their 4-2 advantage to return home with 3 valuable points which hoists them up to 9th place in the league table.
