WESTFIELDS WIN 9 GOAL THRILLER AWAY AT SHEPSHED
Westfields produced a pulsating end-to-end performance to win 5-4 away at Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday and earn 3 valuable points to keep them in touch with the top 5 group in the Midland Football League.
In a thoroughly exciting end-to-end game where both attacks produced superb finishes Westfields snatched the lead as early as the 8th minute when Ben Hayes got on the end of a cross from Aidan Thomas to head home at the far post.
However, the lead was short-lived as Adam Hohn blasted home at the far post when Westfields had failed to deal with a right-wing corner.
In the 25th minute however Westfields restored their lead when a cross came over from the right hand side and in a crowded goal mouth Sam Plane raced forward to prod the ball over the line to gain his first senior goal for Westfields since joining the club from Wellington FC.
Plane’s goal gave Westfields a 2-1 interval lead and after the break Westfields got off to a dream start when Aidan Thomas scored a fine solo goal to put Westfields in a comfortable 3-1 lead.
However, the home side then mounted tremendous pressure on the Westfields defence and scored 3 goals in the space of 15 minutes when they went 4-3 ahead through goals through Michael Reeve, Jake Betts and an absolute belter from Michael Reeve who hit a shot on the turn that beat Keiron Blackburn and went in off the far post.
Blackburn then made a miraculous save to deny Shepshed snatching an increased lead when he somehow turned a Reeve shot around the post.
In a topsy-turvy game, Aidan Thomas then put Westfields level with another fine individual goal and in a grandstand finish Sirdic Grant was brought down on the left hand side of the pitch and from Craig Jones’ in-swinging corner Sam Rawlings raced in to head home at the far post to give Westfields a dramatic 5-4 win.
Westfields now play their last mid-week home game of the season when they entertain Loughborough University on Wednesday and then on Saturday they travel to Lye Town for a top of the table clash which will have a big bearing to see which side will finish 3rd.
