WESTFIELDS WIN AWAY
Westfields got off to a dream start in the 2018/2019 season when they made their 250 mile round journey to South Normanton on Saturday and came away with a fine 1-0 away win.
Played in blistering heat from start to finish Westfields worked hard and won the game with a 34th minute goal when a Craig Jones shot was parried by the home goalkeeper into the path of Mark Magee who made no mistake from 6yds to put Westfields in front.
Just before the interval Westfields had a great chance to double their lead when Keanu Cooper saw his first goal-bound effort brilliantly saved by the home keeper and then the follow-up shot struck the home keeper’s legs as the ball was then scrambled clear.
After the break South Normanton came more into the game but Paul Hurrell on his Westfields debut gave an outstanding display alongside Sam Plane and the Westfields defence held firm.
Westfields then had a couple of great chances to increase their lead when Sam Gwynne put over pin-point crosses which went begging before the home side came back and nearly snatched a late equaliser when again Hurrell was the hero, heading off the line from a dangerous right wing cross.
Westfields worked hard in the heat to deserve their 3 points and now meet Walsall Wood tonight, Monday 6th August, before they travel to Romulus on Saturday in the FA Cup.
Westfields were without injured skipper Kane Kahaki on Saturday and the influential Aidan Thomas but those 2 should be back for tonight’s visit of Walsall Wood.
