South Normanton 1 - Jones 55
Westfields 1 - Moreira 54
WESTFIELDS LONG JOURNEY GETS LITTLE REWARD.
Westfields made a 6 hour return journey to their furthest fixture in the Midland league only to be frustrated with a 1-1 draw after previously beating their opponents South Normanton Athletic 6-1 in their first game of this season.
A much improved Athletic team which included Marcus Tudgay the former Sheffield Wednesday / Derby/ Forest & more recently Coventry striker in their line up were a good match for fields particularly in the 2nd half.
Westfields dominated the first half & only solid defensive play by the Athletic players plus poor finishing & the post, prevented Fields scoring. However on the few occasions Athletic attacked it would be fair to say they were unlucky as they also hit the upright & had a good shout for a penalty turned down by the referee.
A much more even 2nd half saw both sides coming close to scoring but half time substitute Carlos Moreira put Westfields in front with a well-placed shot into the corner of the net in the 52nd minute.
South Normanton hit back within a minute when right sided winger Alan Jones picked up a through ball to slide his shot past Keiron Blackburn in the Fields goal to level the score.
Westfields man of the match Blackburn was in superb form later in the game pulling off two magnificent saves to keep Fields in the game.
The game flowed end to end with a string of corners for both sides but neither side able to break the deadlock. Leaving Westfields a 3 hour return journey home with just 1 point.
