Sporting Kalsa v Westfields
MATCH REPORT - Saturday, September 30, 2017
Sporting Khalsa 4
Westfields 2 - Miller 65, Hainault 78
WESTFIELDS LOSE THEIR WAY
Westfields were heavily beaten 4-2 on Saturday away at Sporting Khalsa when despite putting up a spirited second-half display the gap was too big to fight back from.
Westfields were without the suspended captain Phil Glover and central defensive partner Matt Sysum and had to reshuffle their side but brought into the attack new strikers Jamie Molyneux and Mark Magee.
However, both strikers were given a torrid afternoon as the Sporting Khalsa defence were in form and their captain Robinson kept a tight grip on Westfields’ new twin partnership.
Westfields found themselves 3-0 down at the break and early in the second-half Sporting Khalsa went 4-0 ahead when Keiron Blackburn and Matt Reeve got into a tangle with a free kick and left a simple opportunity for Khalsa to lob the ball into an empty net to give them a dream start to the second half.
However, Westfields came back into the game and Ben Miller fired a low shot into the corner of the net and then Alex Hainault headed home a Craig Jones corner to give Westfields a glimmer of hope in the last 15 minutes.
Both sides hit the woodwork in an end-to-end second half but it was Khalsa who went up into the top 6 position in the league with an impressive win, being their last home game on their Aspray Stadium grass pitch before it is dug up this week to provide a 3G surface for the future.
Final result: Sporting Khalsa 4 – Westfields 2.
