WESTFIELDS IN SUPERB CUP WIN

Westfields gained an impressive 3-2 away win last night to reach the quarter finals of the MFA League Cup when they travelled to in-form Tipton town and came from behind twice to record a fine 3-2 away win in an action-packed end-to-end Cup tie.

Westfields played for over an hour with 10 men when Scott Jackson was “red carded” for a “tangle” with Tipton striker Nathan Jones after he had come on as substitute for Dan Moon in the 25th minute.

Earlier, Tipton had taken a 5th minute lead through winger Chris Morris who beat Jon Pugh with a fierce drive from 12 yards.

Tipton were then denied a second goal when Pugh produced a magnificent save in the top corner of the goal to keep out a Nathan Jones’ shot before Westfields drew level in the 43rd minute when debut boy Jaron MacCauley (18) from Pencomb produced a header from a Sam Harrison cross that brought the Westfields’ equaliser.

Just on half-time Westfields had a great chance to go in front when Daryl Addis beat the home keeper and raced around him but his shot went agonisingly wide from an acute angle.

In the second half, 10 men Westfields worked tirelessly and Pugh again saved at full stretch from Jones then Terry Green headed a Ross Brown shot off the line before Tipton went back in front with a fine goal from Nathan Jones who beat Mike Evans, raced forward, cut in and drilled a right foot shot low into the corner of the Westfields’ net.

Back came Westfields and within 5 minutes were level again when Darren Andrews carved open an opportunity and Daryl Addis, the Westfields’ leading goal scorer, drilled the ball home from 6 yards for the equaliser.

Westfields and Tipton went all out for a winner and with Pugh and Green in top form in the Westfields’ defence the winner came in the 88th minute when, from a Darren Andrews’ cross, Phil Glover beat the home defence with a fine header to put Westfields 3-2 in front for a place in the MFA League Cup quarter finals.
