WESTFIELDS GAIN HFA CUP REVENGE

Westfields gained full revenge for last season’s HFA Cup Final defeat by Wellington on penalties when they knocked the Cup holders out of this year’s competition 4-2 in an action-packed first round tie at Wellington last night.

Both teams served up an end-to-end exciting Cup tie and Westfields hit back from being 2-1 down at the interval to win 4-2 with a scorching second half display.

Striker Mark Davis headed Westfields 1-0 ahead in the 12th minute only for Wayne McNeil to fire Wellington level in the 16th minute, then Wellington snatched a 2-1 lead in the 25th minute when Mike Craig fired home from 10 yards to put the villagers 2-1 ahead before the interval.

After the break Westfields got off to a dream start when Sam Harrison put Westfields level within one minute of the restart and this goal lifted Westfields, and Daryl Addis ended a fine 4-man move to put Westfields 3-2 ahead with a well taken goal from 18 yards out.

Scott Jackson made the tie safe when he headed home a Paul Allam corner to make it 4-2 with a powerful header.

Wellington tried hard to get back into the game but Tom Sparey was in fine form at the heart of the Westfields’ defence as the allpay.park club knocked out the Cup holders.

Westfields will now meet the winners of the Hereford Lads Club v Holme Lacy tie at allpay.park in the Quarter Final.
