Westfields 2 - Hayes, Miller
AFC Walfrunians 2 - Brady, Wilson
WESTFIELDS HELD UP AT HOME AGAIN
Westfields drew 2-2 for the second consecutive Saturday and dropped valuable points in their bid to maintain a promotion place in the Midland Football League table.
However the valuable point hoisted them above Worcester City into second place although they’ve played more games than their local rivals.
Westfields had a host of early chances to have opened the scoring on several occasions as they dictated play in the first 20 minutes with fluent, attacking attractive football but despite some fine work down the right flank by Ben Hayes, who produced crosses, both Ben Miller and Jamie Molyneux missed the early opportunities to have put Westfields comfortably ahead.
Westfield then faced a hammer blow when defender Sam Plane was involved in a clash of heads and was taken to hospital to have stitches inserted in a head wound and Westfields had to reshuffle the pack although incoming substitute Josh Thomas produced an excellent display at right back.
However, not long after the substitutions the visitors took the lead when Kyle Brady latched on to a Jake Webb long ball and slotted the ball under Keiron Blackburn to open the scoring for the visitors.
However, Westfields continued to play attacking football down both flanks as chances went begging for the home side but eventually Ben Hayes who had been providing the passes took the ball in his stride with a fine pass from Josh Thomas and Hayes levelled the scores with a fierce shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net just 2 minutes before the interval.
After the break both teams mastered the windy conditions but it took just 6 minutes for AFC Wulfrunians to go back in front when good persistence from Si Williams set up a chance for Charles Wilson and he made no mistake to beat Keiron Blackburn and put the visitors back in front.
Westfields then threw everything back into the game and in the 65th minute drew level with the best goal of the match when Ben Miller scored with a terrific finish from a tight angle to level the scores.
Westfields then went on to create further chances and Hayes who had a fine game on the right wing produced great crosses which both Carlos Moreira and Ben Miller missed when it was easier to score.
Westfields continued to push forward in an attempt to gain a winning goal and Craig Jones had a shot charged down and then the visitors’ keeper produced a splendid save to keep out another effort from Craig Jones.
At the other end, Keiron Blackburn twice went full length to prevent the Wulfrunians from snatching the lead again as both sides threw caution into attack to try and get a winning goal.
However, with the 90 minutes up both sides settled for a point following an excellent end-to-end Midland Football League game played in difficult windy conditions.
