Westfields v Alvechurch

MATCH REPORT - Monday, August 25, 2014

Westfields 0

Alvechurch 1- Cresswell (25 minutes)

Attendance: 115

After kicking off the Bank Holiday with a hard fought 3 points against Brocton, Fields finished it with a disappointing 0-1 defeat to high flying Alvechurch.

Fields were first to create a chance in this game when pacey winger Dean Lee cut in from the right hand side of the pitch before sending a curling effort inches over the bar. This Westfields pressure didn’t last long when Church Forward Connor Deards went bursting into the box before bringing a stretching save from Matt Gwynne. A few minutes later Deards was faced with another clear cut chance this time finding the body of Gwynne who pushed to ball into the path of Dave Edwards who some how managed to put the ball into the side netting from 2 yards out.

With all this attacking pressure being put on the Westfields back four, Alvechurch managed to open the scoring in the 25th minute, Midfielder Jack Cresswell struck the ball in off the post after some good play and a pull back by Connor Deards.

It was then Fields turn to pile on the pressure, a ball down the left hand side sent Tom Boyle through on goal before the Attacker sent a weak shot straight into the body of the Keeper.

HALF TIME- Westfields 0-1 Alvechurch

Fields started the Second half in a similar way to the First when winger Dean Lee found himself in the centre of the pitch before trying an audacious chip over Church Keeper Parsons, luckily for Church the ball just dropped over the bar.

Westfields continued with the pressure, but could not get further than the Church back line due to lack of creativity and movement coming from the Fields frontmen. Substitute Robert Dragg had Fields best chance of the second half when he sent a curling left foot effort cannoning off the post before the ball fell the Polan who slipped his shot just wide of the far post.

Alvechurch were answering everything Westfields threw at them, a predictable and last ditch route one tactic employed by Fields in the final 10 minutes wasn’t fazing the tall Church centre backs who sent the ball back into the Westfields half.

After throwing everything at Church, Westfields couldn’t manage to find a way past the Church Defenders who had a solid game, meaning Westfields good run of form came to an end.
