Westfields v Alvechurch

MATCH REPORT - Wednesday, September 07, 2016

Westfields 2 - Jones 37, Thomas 59
Alvechurch 0

Attendance 307

Westfields continued their impressive start to the new season with their 9th consecutive league and cup win with an impressive 2-0 home win over much-fancied Alvechurch at allpay.park last night.

Westfields played in front of 307 fans, easily their biggest attendance of the season, as the locals turned out for Sean Edwards’ team who once again put on an impressive display.

Alvechurch came determined to stop the Westfields run and played tight at the back but Westfields broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when danger-man Sirdic Grant was brought down on the edge of the box after a fine run and Craig Jones sent a left-footed free kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net to give Westfields a 1-0 interval lead.

Alvechurch came back strongly and twice Matt Gwynne dealt with dangerous situations in the Westfields goal to keep Westfields’ lead in tact at the break.

After the interval and with Westfields continuing to impress on both flanks with Sirdic Grant and Aidan Thomas both enjoying space, Westfields went further ahead in the 59th minute when danger-man Aidan Thomas got free on the left and coolly slotted past the Alvechurch keeper to give Westfields a 2-0 lead.

Alvechurch came back immediately and Gwynne went full-length in the Westfields goal to prevent a certain Alvechurch goal and then twice Phil Glover and then Kane Kahaki cleared dangerous situations and Sam Plane also headed off the line as Alvechurch came back strongly.

Westfields then brought on fresh legs in Dan Polan, Dylan Bonella and Ben Miller and the three substitutes all contributed well in enabling Westfields to maintain their position at the top of the table with another impressive home win.

Westfields now meet second in the table Quorn on Saturday at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm, and next Tuesday they visit third in the table Walsall Wood at Walsall, kick-off 7.45pm.  They then return to allpay.park the following Saturday, 17th September, in the FA Cup 2nd Round Qualifying when Highgate are the visitors, kick-off 3pm.
