Westfields v Boldmere St Michaels

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, October 04, 2014

Westfields 1 - Jones 78 (pen)
Boldmere St Michaels 1 - Clark 15

Attendance 147

A sunny afternoon at allpay.park saw a lackluster Westfields team pick up a 1-1 draw against a ill disciplined Boldmere side which saw three Boldmere players seeing red in a high tempered 90 minutes of football.

Fields started the brightest of the two teams, Robert Drag and Craig Jones had some neat early touches in the middle of the park, this possession allowed a pass through to Carl Morgan who found himself on the edge of the 6 yard box before putting a weak shot into the side netting. This early pressure continued when Fields had two chances in quick succession, Firstly Dan Polan runs through on goal before sending a shot straight into the chest of the Goalkeeper, then the ball fell back to Polan who set up the on rushing Drag who saw his side footed shot blocked 2 yards from the Goal line.

After all Westfields pressure, Boldmere took the lead when Striker Kieran Clarke found some space on the edge of the box before finding time to neatly turn James Febery and send a well placed shot into the far corner of the goal.

The game then turned sour when Boldmere went down to 10 men, Boldmere’s Number 4 was sent off for kick Robert Drag after the ball had gone. A few minutes later the game turned from bad to worse for Boldmere as they went down to 9 men, Kieran Clarke being sent off for an off the ball incident, Clarke wouldn’t take this lightly as he was escorted off the pitch by his Manager as he had an altercation with Fields Goalkeeper Matt Gwynne.

Just before Half time, Dan Polan found some space to release a thunderous right footed shot, luckily for Boldmere their Keeper was on hand to palm it behind for a corner.

HALF TIME: Westfields 0-1 Boldmere St Michaels

In a similar fashion to the First Half, Fields winger Carl Morgan was in amongst the action, firstly Morgan found some space to dribble in field before sending a left footed shot just wide of the post. Morgan then found himself in space again, this time sending over an inviting cross which was met by Left Back Joel Edwards who saw his header fly over the crossbar.

Boldmere had a chance to go in front. Their lively number 7 eased past 5 Fields players before proceeding into the box and firing his shot just wide of Matt Gwynne’s goal.

Fields equalised on the 78th minute when Substitute Dequon Eubanks had the ball rolled into his feet on the edge of the box before being taken down. Craig Jones stepped up to take the Penalty before firing the ball home from 12 yards out.

It’s not something you often see during a game of football but Boldmere went down to 8 players after their lively Number 10 got sent off for a horrible tackle on Sam Gwynne.

This was an open invitation for Fields to go and pick up all 3 points, Dean Lee saw his shot go just wide of the post before Fields turned to a route one approach. After throwing everything at Boldmere, Fields couldn’t break them down and only picked up a point.
