Westfields v Boldmere St Michael

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, October 14, 2017

Westfields 3 - Hayes 10, Greaves 50, Magee 53
Boldmere St Michael 1 - Dodd 18

Attendance 147

Westfields entertained Boldmere St Michaels in a Total Motion Midland Football League Premier Division game on Saturday and came away with 3 valuable points to hoist them up the table and produced a 3-1 home win at allpay.park.

Westfields were forced to make changes as both Kane Kahaki and Matt Sysum were ruled out with a one-match suspension and Aidan Thomas and James Febery were both ruled out with injuries so therefore Sean Edwards re-shuffled the pack to good effect.

Westfields took an early lead when Ben Hayes fired home at the far post with a low shot to put Westfields ahead but then Boldmere came back into the game and 2 brave saves by Keiron Blackburn at the feet of visiting attackers prevented the visitors from drawing level.

Westfields created a couple of openings in the first half to increase their lead but were stunned when the visitors drew level when Nicky Dodd got up at the far post to head powerfully home off the underside of the crossbar to put the visitors level, one each at the break.

After the interval Westfields began to play with more pressure and a higher tempo and last season’s leading goal-scorer Richard Greaves put Westfields ahead in the 51st minute with a cracking shot from just inside the penalty area and then 2 minutes later Mark Magee fired Westfields 3-1 ahead and it appeared that the floodgates would open.

Jamie Molyneux then fired against the post and the ball was scrambled clear before at the other end Phil Glover twice made goal-line clearances to keep Westfields’ 2 goal advantage intact.

Westfields then brought on Hayden Turner and the youngster fired over the bar with his first touch and then Phil Glover also headed just over the crossbar as Westfields looked to go further ahead.

However, in an end-to-end game Blackburn saved at full stretch and then Phil Glover again cleared off the Westfields goal line as Boldmere kept themselves in the game in search of an equaliser.

Westfields had to work hard for their 3 points but the win takes them up into 14th position in the league table.
