Westfields 1 - Thomas
Boldmere St Michael 2 - Shearer, Usher-Shipway
WESTFIELDS FAIL TO HALT SLIDE
Westfields gave a disappointing home display against visiting Boldmere St Michaels in the Midland Football League Premier Division on Saturday and lost their third consecutive home match with a 2-1 defeat against middle of the table Boldmere.
Westfields beat the weather in getting the match played but certainly their opponents were keen to get the 3 points as well and gave a hard workmanlike display against a Westfields side deprived of 3 key players through suspensions, namely Sam Gwynne, Paul Hurrell and Ollie Butler.
Westfields found themselves a goal down midway through the first half when Luke Shearer hit a superb 25yd drive in the top corner of Keiron Blackburn’s net to give the visitors a 1-0 interval lead.
After the break it was the visitors who once again looked the livelier outfit and Keiron Blackburn saved well before Boldmere took a 2-0 lead when Ben Usher-Shipway skipped down the right hand side of the pitch and rode 3 Westfields tackles before he coolly beat Blackburn with a good finish.
Westfields then played their better football in the last quarter of an hour and tried hard to get back into the game but there was some wayward finishing and it wasn’t until Ollie Price got down the right hand side and crossed for Aidan Thomas who coolly side-footed home in the 90th minute.
Westfields had little time to draw level and suffered their third home defeat in 3 games.
Next Saturday they are at home to Lye Town before they go to Wolverhampton Sporting Community on Boxing Day and open up their New Year campaign with an away trip to Quorn on 5th January.
