Westfields 6 - Hayes, Greaves 2, Hainault, Reeve, Needham
SUBSTITUTES CHANGE THE GAME
Westfields opened up their home pre-season programme for the 2017/2018 season with an emphatic 6-2 home win over visiting Welsh League side Caersws on Saturday.
Westfields led at the break 1-0 although they had had a hatful of chances to have increased their interval lead but Aidan Thomas, Ben Hayes and James Febery all saw their efforts go wide of the target.
After the break Caersws came level at one each but then Westfields introduced their substitutes and it made an immediate impact when Carlos Moreira was brought down in the box and Richard Greaves put Westfields 2-1 ahead from the spot.
Alex Hainault came on as substitute and immediately made an impact, scoring a fine far post header to put Westfields 3-1 ahead and then Greaves put Westfields 4-1 ahead again after the lively Moreira was brought down once again and Greaves made no mistake to put Westfields 4-1 ahead with his second penalty of the game.
Westfields then took control and Aidan Thomas laid on a great chance for David Needham to score with a close-range effort from a classic Thomas cross before Matt Reeve scored with a scorcher with a long drive to put Westfields further ahead.
Caersws came back with a consolation goal to make it 6-2 but Westfields’ second-half performance was much more lively.
On Tuesday of this week Westfields entertain Slimbridge in their last pre-season friendly of the season before Saturday’s F A Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie when the visitors to allpay.park are Bewdley Town, kick-off 3pm.
