Westfields v Coalville Town

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, November 20, 2010

Westfields 1 - Jones
Coalville Town 1 - Woodward

Westfields and MFA League leaders Coalville Town were locked in an exciting end-to-end MFA League game at allpay.park on Saturday when the 2 sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw in which both teams had chances to have won the game.

In an action-packed game both teams saw Red with Westfields losing teenager Joel Edwards for an over zealous tackle while the Leicestershire visitors had 2 players enjoying an early bath as Referee Mr Dave Humphreys of Edgbaston stood for no nonsense in a hard-fought game.

In an entertaining first 45 minutes Westfields should have taken the lead in their first attack when Richard Kear got free on the right but delayed his shot when he was through on goal and Sean Bowles in the Coalville goal made a late save to deny the Westfields’ marksman.

At the other end, Jamie Moore came to Westfields’ rescue with a brilliant one-handed save when Lee Miveld went through with only the Westfields’ keeper to beat but Moore reacted well with an excellent save.

Both defences were strong in the opening half as the teams went in goal-less at the break.

After the interval, Westfields broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Sam Harrison put Craig Jones in space on the left and the ex Hereford United player cut in and beat the diving Bowles with a low shot into the far corner of the net.

Coalville were then dealt a 2nd blow when their defender Jamie Dodd was sent off for a reckless challenge on Carl Morgan as the winger was in full flight.  However, the 10 man team battled hard and pulled level in the 75th minute when Jamie Cuss lost possession in midfield and Coalville caught Westfields and when Matt Moore got free he was brought down by Craig Jones and from the free-kick Westfields only cleared the ball to the edge of the penalty area where Callam Woodward headed the ball home for an equaliser.  With the tempo high at 1-1 and both sides pushing for a winner, Westfields found themselves reduced to 10 men when Joel Edwards was red-carded for a tackle on Leigh Everitt and the youngster was sent for an early bath.

Westfields then brought on substitutes Danny McDonald and Aaron Hopkinson in a bid to snatch a winner and Coalville had to battle when again they were penalised for a foul and Danny Haynes was sent off for a second yellow card.

Westfields then saw Craig Jones’ free-kick go inches wide of the post and Bowles saved a Scott Jackson header as Westfields went all out for a late winner but 9 man Coalville held their nerve to maintain the poll position at the top of the League.
