COVENTRY TOO STRONG FOR WESTFIELDS
Visitors Coventry United proved far too strong for Westfields in the Midland Football League match on Saturday when the visitors swept aside Westfields with a 4-1 win.
Coventry were sharp, quick and extremely strong and raced into a 3-1 interval lead.
The visitors took the lead through Lewis Rankin in the 31st minute when he curled home a beautifully executed shot from the edge of the penalty area to give Keiron Blackburn no chance.
Seven minutes later Mitch Piggon headed home a low cross in the 38th minute and then just before half time Craig Reid scored in a goal-mouth scramble after Blackburn had parried away a close-range shot.
Craig Jones gave Westfields some hope in the 45th minute when just on the stroke of half time he fired home a knock-down from Chris Ham to reduce the arrears but the visitors went in 3-1 up at half time.
After the break Westfields reorganised their team with the introduction of Richard Greaves, Carlos Moreira and Matt Reeve and this looked to be a lot stronger until the final minutes when the Coventry United substitute Aaron Opoku came on for his debut, having recently signed from Tamworth, and scored, again from a goal-mouth scramble.
Coventry were by far the fitter, quicker and more clinical side and deserved their 3 points although Westfields’ second-half performance gave everyone a lift from the disappointment of the first 45 minutes.
