Westfields v Dunkirk

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, September 04, 2010

Westfields 2 - Kear, D.Addis
Dunkirk 1

Westfields jumped up to 3rd in the MFA League table with a fine 2-1 home win over Nottingham team Dunkirk.

Westfields welcomed back Richard Kear (pictured above) who last season bagged 17 goals for Westfields before being snapped up by Swindon Super Marine but the striker has failed to settle at Swindon and rejoined Westfields to spearhead the attack with Daryl Addis and the twin strikers both bagged a goal apiece in an impressive win over the last season’s East Midland League champions at allpay.park.

Kear wasted no time in showing he had lost none of his appetite for scoring when he almost put Westfields ahead in their first attack but he fired over the bar when put clear by Carl Morgan.

However, Westfields took the lead when Carl Morgan beat 3 Dunkirk defenders in the 10th minute with a fine run and played the ball into Craig Jones and the ex Hereford United youngster fed the ball through to Richard Kear and he coolly slotted the ball home from 12 yards into the bottom corner of the net.

Westfields’ first half was clean passing soccer and Jamie Cuss had a chance to make it 2 but fired wide before leading goal scorer Daryl Addis scored a fine near post goal when he tucked away a Carl Morgan corner to put Westfields 2-0 ahead in the 20th minute.

Dunkirk had their moment and Terry Green and Gareth Thomas both cleared shots off the Westfields’ goal line before the interval to preserve the Westfields’ advantage.

After the break Westfields should have put the score beyond doubt when Phil Glover put Craig Jones through on goal but the teenager shot wide from 12 yards.  Daryl Addis then worked his way clear on the left but his also flashed wide of the far post before Dunkirk got a goal when they caught Westfields on the counter attack on the hour when a swift move across field found Jarrod Westcarr in space and he raced clear to reduce the score line with a cracking finish.

Westfields hit back immediately and Craig Jones hit a screaming 20 yard shot against the Dunkirk post then the visitors’ keeper made a fantastic double save from Jamie Cuss as Westfields seemed certain to put the score line beyond doubt.

In the end it was Westfields who had to defend well in injury time to prevent Dunkirk equalising but the Westfields’ defence stood firm with Phil Glover at the heart of the defence very sound as Westfields registered their 4th league win of the new season.
