WESTFIELDS BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Westfields got back to winning ways, when after 4 MFA matches had only brought 2 draws, Westfields returned to allpay park to record a 4 - 1 home win over visiting Friar Lane and Epworth on Saturday.
Westfields had lost their previous 2 MFA away games and had been held to 2 draws at allpay park, but on Saturday Westfields got straight at their Leicestershire visitors and were unlucky not to score with their opeining attack when Jamie Addis hit a superb volley from the edge of the box, but the visitors’ keeper produced a superb save at the foot of his post.
However, Westfields snatched the lead in the 8th minute when Paul Allam was sent clear by Sam Harrison and Allam’s cross caused confusion in the Friar Lane penalty area and Daryl Addis pounced to lash home the loose ball from 8 yards to put Westfileds ahead.
Westfields then had a let off when Friar Lane hit back and Chris Goodman was left with only Jon Pugh to beat, but he blazed his effort over the bar from 10 yards out. Westfields then increased the lead when a sweet moving up field move between Ashley Day and Paul Allam found Mark Hibbard in space and Hibbard scored with a rising shot from 18 yards past Holyoak in the Friar Lane goal.
Westfields were playing well and creating chances and it came as no surprise when Daryl Addis almost added a 3rd goal, when he thumped a tremendous 20 yard shot against the Friar Lane crossbar with Holyoak well beaten. Friar Lane tried to get back into the game but twice Terry Green and Paul Casey got in good tackles before Westfields went 3 - 0 ahead in the 33rd minute, when dangerman Daryl Addis broke away from his marker and swept the ball home to put Westfields into an unassailable lead with only a third of the match gone.
Westfields were in full cry now and Jamie Addis was put through by Ashley Day and his fine angled drive hit the Friar Lane post and rebounded to safety when a 4th goal looked on the cards.
However, the visitors came back before the break and pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time when a right wing movement involving Chris Goodman and Jordan Wakeling ended with John Chapman beating Jon Pugh with a rasping shot from 12 yards.
After the break Friar Lane tightened up their defence in the opening 15 minutes, but in the 61st minute Westfields increased their lead when the home side were awarded a free kick from Sam Harrisons’ free kick, Phil Glover rose above the Friar home defenders to put the game beyond the Leicestershire side. Westfields then should have extended the lead when Daniel Moon went through on goal, but blazed his shot wide of the target.
Westfields were then to re-shuffle the side as injuries were sustained to Harrison and Allam but Mike Evans and Lee Mussell came along with Sam Hunt and all 3 did well in the re-organised Westfields team.
