Westfields maintained their impressive FA Cup run with a superb 4-2 home win over Highgate United on Saturday in an action-packed end-to-end 2nd Round Qualifying Cup tie at sunny allpay.park in front of 239 spectators.

Westfields, bidding to reach the 3rd Round Qualifying for the first time, fell behind to a 5 minute goal as Highgate raced into an early lead when Connor Mooney hit a fierce shot past Keiron Blackburn.

However, Westfields got into their stride and levelled with a great goal when Richard Greaves got on the end of an excellent cross from Sam Plane who had brilliantly overlapped on the left wing.

Then just before half time Westfields snatched the lead when Aidan Thomas created an opportunity for Jamie Molyneux and he seized on the chance to put Westfields ahead from six yards.

After the break the game swung from end-to-end and Molyneux had a great chance to put Westfields 3-1 ahead but he shot wide from 18 yards then Aidan Thomas hit the Highgate post as Westfields opened up well.  However, midway through the half Highgate drew level when Craig Jones brought down Josh Hawker and Hawker put Highgate level from the penalty spot to set up an exciting period of play.

Blackburn in the Westfields goal made a spectacular save to deny Highgate the lead then Sirdic Grant twice got free only to be brought down.

Then as the game seemed to be heading for a replay Westfields snatched the game from Highgate when in the 89th minute Grant was up-ended on the right flank and from Craig Jones’ free kick Kane Kahaki outjumped the Highgate defence to head home from 6 yards to give Westfields the lead.

Westfields then had a scare when Dylan Bonella gave away a free kick on the edge of the Westfields penalty area but Hawker fired inches wide of the upright.

Then in a grandstand finish Westfields made the tie safe when substitute Ben Miller got the decisive 4th goal when he fired home a left foot shot from 12 yards to put Westfields through with a fantastic 4-2 home win over visiting Highgate United in front of 239 spectators.
