Westfields v Leicester Nirvana

MATCH REPORT - Saturday, December 01, 2018

Westfields 0
Leicester Nirvana 4 - Anastasi 2, Brown-Wingfield, Wilson

Westfields were surprisingly well beaten by visiting Leicester Nirvana on Saturday and ended their FA Vase hopes of a trip to Wembley.

Westfields, having beaten Worcester City the previous Saturday in the Midland Football League, remained unchanged for the visit of the United Counties League side but really never got into their stride and the visitors ran out comfortable winners.

Westfields were second-best in most of the areas against a side full of running who had pace and clinical finishing.

Westfields found themselves 1-0 down after just 5 minutes when Chris Anastasi put the visitors ahead to give Westfields an early warning and whilst the home side tried to get back into the game their approach play was easily wiped away by the quick-thinking and quick-tackling visitors.

Leicester Nirvana increased their lead before the interval when they caught Westfields on the counter-attack and went 2-0 ahead with a superb goal by Connor Brown-Wingfield who cut inside from the right and unleashed a fine shot low into the far corner of the Westfields net to give the visitors a comfortable lead.

Westfields’ best chance in the first half fell to Ben Hayes who went through on goal but the Leicester keeper was equal to the shot and saved bravely at the feet of the Westfields winger.

After the break the young Leicester side went further ahead when Tariq Wilson netted again late in the game, again on the counter attack after Westfields had pushed up for a corner and then right in the last minute Westfields were penalised when Kane Kahaki gave away a penalty and Chris Anastasi capped a fine game for the visitors by putting the result beyond doubt by converting the penalty kick to leave Westfields well and truly beaten by a 4-0 margin.

Westfields now face a busy week when they travel to play West Midland League side Wellington on Tuesday in the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup, kick-off 7.45pm, and then on Saturday entertain the Midland Football League leaders Ilkeston Town at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm.

Westfields have already been beaten 2-0 away at Ilkeston but since that result Westfields have put a good league campaign together and Saturday’s top of the table clash gives Westfields a chance to close the gap on the league leaders.

The following Monday, 10th December, Westfields travel to Romulus in the third round of the Midland Football League Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.
