WESTFIELDS WIN WELL
Westfields recorded a fine 3-1 home victory over visiting Lye Town at allpay.park last night when they fought back from being a goal down to win 3-1 with an excellent performance.
Lye Town hit the home side in the 6th minute when Ryan Rowe burst through the Westfields defence and fired low past John Hopkins in the Westfields goal.
Westfields then worked hard but the visitors’ defence defended well until the stroke of half-time when Jamie Molyneux went on a maizy run, cut in from the left and fired across hard and low, and Richard Greaves nipped in to prod the ball over the line to put the teams one each and level at the break.
After the interval Westfields got into their stride against a ten-man Lye Town side who had seen a player sent off for an over-zealous tackle on Sam Gwynne.
Westfields began to open up well and Molyneux fired Westfields 2-1 ahead on the hour with a low shot which took a deflection into the corner of the net off a Lye defender.
Molyneux then almost snatched a further goal for Westfields but his lob went over the bar and then Molyneux saw the home keeper go full-length to save at the foot of the post.
Eventually Westfields put on their substitutes Carlos Moreira and Kingsford Adjei, and Adjei snatched a 3rd goal 2 minutes from time when he got on the end of a through ball, beat his defender and coolly slotted home past the advancing keeper to give Westfields a fine 3-1 home win.
