WESTFIELDS LOSE OUT IN HARD TUSSLE
Westfields were beaten at home 2-1 by visiting Quorn in a Midland Football League Premier Division game last night when the visitors out-battled Westfields to earn three valuable points to hoist them up the league table.
Westfields’ topsy-turvy form continued which has seen them win only one of their last seven Midland Football League fixtures.
However, Westfields enjoyed good possession particularly in the early stages when they played slick, fast constructive football and Keanu Cooper was unlucky not to put Westfields ahead in the early stages.
However, the big strong visiting side from Leicestershire battled hard as both teams gave strong defensive displays to go in goal-less at the break.
However, after the interval Quorn began to open up the Westfields defence and took the lead just after the hour when Josh Thomas was penalised for hand-ball on the goal line and was dismissed with a red card and from the resultant penalty Stephen Hart slotted the ball wide of Keiron Blackburn to put the visitors ahead.
Westfields enjoyed a good period of play as they tried to get back into the game but it was the visitors who looked likely to score again when Hart went through but Paul Hurrell made a superb goal line clearance to keep the visitors at bay.
Then in the 82nd minute good work down the left hand flank saw the ten man Westfields side equalise when Keanu Cooper curled the ball low into the right hand corner of the Quorn net for a deserved Westfields equaliser.
However, Westfields then threw caution to the wind and pushed up to try and snatch a winner and left themselves a little exposed at the back and Hart went through and evaded the challenges of Hurrell and keeper Blackburn to score the winner two minutes from time to give them a great lift with three valuable points and a 2-1 away win.
Westfields now face Coventry United at home on Saturday and then visit Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday night in the Second Round of the Midland League Cup before they welcome Romulus to allpay.park on 3rd November in the FA Vase Second Round.
