Westfields v Shepshed Dynamo
MATCH REPORT - Thursday, April 26, 2018
Westfields 4 - Thomas 2, Magee, Adjei
Shepshed Dynamo 5 - Hurst, Brennan, Read, Betts, Glover o.g.
WESTFIELDS THROW AWAY TWO GOAL LEAD
Westfields’ poor end of season results continued when they crashed to a 5-4 home defeat to visiting Shepshed Dynamo last night.
Westfields raced into a 2 goal lead through Aidan Thomas in the 25th minute and a Mark Magee goal in the 26th minute and should have gone further ahead when Magee blazed over the bar from 6 yards when well placed from an Aidan Thomas through ball.
However, on the stroke of half time Liam Hurst pulled a goal back with a shot from the half-way line that went over the top of Keiron Blackburn and into the roof of the net.
After the break Shay Brennan pulled a goal back to put the 2 sides level before Aidan Thomas scored an absolute beauty to put Westfields 3-2 in the lead.
Liam Read then pulled back a goal in the 70th minute to draw level for the visitors before Kingsford Adjei headed home a perfect cross by Man of the Match Aidan Thomas.
In an end-to-end encounter and with Westfields’ defence in total disarray Jake Betts equalised in the last minute of the game to make the scores 4-4 but then deep into injury time Phil Glover, the Westfields skipper, turned a cross into his own net to give the visiting Shepshed Dynamo side a gift 5-4 win.
This result saw Westfields only take 6 wins from the last 22 games and with 3 games to play Westfields look to be heading for a mid-table position in a season when they could have easily finished in the top 6.
On Saturday Westfields play at home to Rugby Town in their last home game of the season before next week they catch up with 2 previously postponed games when they visit Coventry United on Tuesday 1st May and travel to Shepshed Dynamo on Thursday 3rd May for their final league game of the season.
