MATCH REPORT - Wednesday, December 26, 2018

Wolverhampton Sporting Community 3 - Clarke,
Westfields 4 - Thomas, Hayes, Cooper, Price

WESTFIELDS BRING CHRISTMAS CHEER

Westfields travelled away to Wolverhampton Sporting Community on Boxing Day and made the long 180 mile round trip worthwhile when they secured 3 points with a hard-working battling performance and with a last minute goal from young substitute Ollie Price.

Westfields got off to a great start on the Bank Holiday fixture when Aidan Thomas put them ahead with a brilliant strike from 25yds to give Westfields the lead but the home side equalised from the penalty spot when Clark fired home an equaliser after Kane Kahaki had committed a foul inside the Westfields penalty area.

However, Westfields regained the lead when Ben Hayes put Westfields 2-1 ahead with a neat side-foot finish from 8yds.

Hayes then had a golden opportunity to increase the Westfields lead when the Wolves goalkeeper misplaced a pass outside of the penalty area straight to Hayes but with a gaping goal Hayes put his shot wide.  This signalled a confidence boost to the home side who came back to put the sides level at the break.

However, after the break Wolves Sporting Community opened up a lead when Westfields’ defence failed to deal with a left-wing free kick and they headed home from 6yds to put the home side ahead.

However, Westfields came back in an end-to-end exciting game when Keanu Cooper headed home a corner to put the sides level on 60 minutes.

Both sides then went flat out for a winner and it came in the dying minutes when young substitute Ollie Price came on and scored the winner with a clinical finish which gave Westfields 3 valuable points from their away trip and made it a happy Christmas following on from their 1-0 home win against Lye on Christmas Saturday.

Westfields have now taken 6 points from their last 2 Midland Football League games, keeping them in second position but now have a 10 day break until they travel to Leicestershire side Quorn on Saturday 5th January and then travel to old rivals Boldmere St Michaels on Tuesday 8th January before returning to allpay.park on Saturday 12th January at home to Sporting Khalsa.
