Worcester City 1 - Evans
Westfields 6 - Molyneux 2, Hayes, Thomas 3
WESTFIELDS THUMP WORCESTER CITY
Westfields maintained their second spot in the Midland Football League Premier Division with an overwhelming 6-1 away win at championship contenders Worcester City on Saturday when Westfields gave a superb performance, racing into a 5-0 interval lead.
The Worcester City manager, John Snape, was left shell-shocked after the game when he commented “We were completely out-classed”.
Westfields were on fire from the first few minutes when Jamie Molyneux raced through and seized on a hesitant Worcester defence to put the ball neatly past the advancing Dan Jezeph to put Westfields into an early lead.
Worcester were trying to get back into the game and former Westfields winger James Baldwin caught the eye on the right hand side with a couple of good runs before Westfields increased their lead in the fifteenth minute when a cross into the box from the right hand side saw Aidan Thomas completely pushed off the ball and a penalty was awarded from which Ben Hayes coolly slotted the ball home to give Westfields a 2-0 lead with only fifteen minutes on the clock.
Worcester were desperately trying to get back into the game, playing down the slope on the Bromsgrove Sporting pitch but Kane Kahaki and Paul Hurrell were in good form at the heart of the Westfields defence whilst Westfields continued to break well using both flanks effectively.
It came as no surprise when Westfields increased their lead in the 33rd minute when a shot initially was cleared to the edge of the box and Jamie Molyneux was right on the spot to fire home from the edge of the penalty area with a low shot past Jezeph to give Westfields a 3-0 lead.
Two minutes later Aidan Thomas appeared on the scene for the first of his 3 goals when he volleyed home from just inside the penalty area to give Westfields a 4-0 lead and then right on the stroke of half time Thomas again proved too quick for the Worcester defence when he fired home again with a left foot shot which gave Jezeph no chance.
With Westfields winning 5-0 Jezeph then raced from his goal and berated the match referee James Cox for which he received a red card right on the half time whistle.
After the break Westfields continued their dominance of the game and scored within a minute of the re-start when Jordan Stoddard misplaced a pass right into the path of Aidan Thomas and the Westfields striker raced through to hit a low shot past substitute goalkeeper Sam Gilder.
With Westfields 6-0 up, the home side were struggling to get back into the game as Westfields played possession football, maintaining passes and frustrating the home fans of 361 with their controlled and possession football.
However, Worcester did get a late consolation goal when substitute Kyonn Evans scored in the 87th minute with a solo goal to give Worcester some consolation for their afternoon.
The 3 points kept Westfields up in second spot and sets up next week’s FA Vase third round tie when they are at home to Leicester Nirvana on Saturday, kick-off 3pm at allpay.park.
