Boldmere St Michaels v Westfields
MATCH REPORT - Saturday, March 10, 2018
Boldmere St Michaels 3 -
Westfields 1 - Magee
BOLDMERE WERE READY FOR WESTFIELDS
Boldmere St Michaels gained revenge for the 3-1 defeat that they received at Westfields earlier in the season when they repeated the same score-line at their 3G headquarters on Saturday and comfortably beat Westfields following a devastating opening first half when they raced into a 3-0 interval lead.
Westfields looked disjointed in the first half and fell behind in the 6th minute when a through ball beat the central pairing of Sysum and Plane, and the Boldmere captain Milligan neatly lobbed the advancing Alex Harris to put the home side ahead.
Worse was to come in the 25th minute when the league’s leading goal-scorer Nesbit got free and beat Alex Harris to put Boldmere 2-0 ahead.
Westfields were in all sorts of problems defensively and when Kane Kahaki tried to chest down a through ball he was beaten by the lively Nesbit who neatly side-stepped Alex Harris to put Boldmere into a commanding 3-0 lead.
After the break Westfields re-shuffled the pack and brought on the experienced Sam Gwynne in place of Alex Hainault and this did strengthen up the back line of Westfields and the visitors equalised when a great run down the left-hand side by Aidan Thomas saw him square the ball back into the path of Mark Magee and in a goal-mouth scramble Magee was able to get the ball over the line to restore some pride for Westfields.
Westfields then mounted tremendous pressure on the Boldmere back 4 in an attempt to get back into the game and both Craig Jones and Mark Magee had good opportunities which were well saved by the home keeper.
In a second-half display which was much improved, Westfields looked as though they may get back into the game although the home defence was sound despite a Matt Sysum header being cleared off the line and then an effort from Mendes went wide.
Westfields put together a much improved second-half display which unfortunately was not enough to get anything from the game.
Westfields now slip into 14th position in the league table but have 2 home games now in which to gain some much needed points when they meet Stourport Swifts on Saturday, kick-off 3pm, at allpay.park, and the following Wednesday entertain promotion hopefuls Sporting Khalsa at allpay.park, kick-off 7.45pm.
