WESTFIELDS GO THROUGH IN THE FA VASE
Westfields went through in the FA Vase to the 2nd Round Qualifying when they beat Stapenhill from Burton-on-Trent 4-2 at allpay.park on Saturday.
After the excitement of beating Soham Town Rangers on Wednesday night Westfields were a little bit slow to start in the first half and although opportunities were presented to take an early lead Westfields could not hit the target and at half time both teams went in at 0-0 although Stapenhill had squandered a couple of early opportunities when Keiron Blackburn was called into early action.
However, after the break Westfields got off to a tremendous start when a Lewis Platt cross was headed clear and found the feet of Alex Hainault who beautifully volleyed the ball low past the Stapenhill keeper from 20yds out to open the scoring.
This goal gave Westfields confidence and they began to open up the Stapenhill defence and Dan Polan presented a chance for Richard Greaves who bravely slid the ball home from 12yds out while under pressure from the home keeper and a defender.
This 2-0 cushion began to give Westfields confidence and they brought on substitutes Kingsford Adjei and Hayden Turner to add further pace to the attack.
However, it was the visitors who pulled a goal back in spectacular fashion when they reduced the arrears with a cracking goal from outside the penalty area.
However, the lively Adjei then produced a fine goal to put Westfields 3-1 in front when he appeared in the penalty area to fire home from close range a cross from Aidan Thomas.
Westfields now looked to be cruising to a 3-1 win when Matt Sysum was caught in possession and his pass was misplaced to Stapenhill substitute Marcus Coombs who coolly chipped Keiron Blackburn to bring the visitors back into the game.
However, Westfields got back on top when Richard Greaves was brought down on the edge of the penalty area and Craig Jones slotted home a tremendous free kick from 20yds out to put Westfields 4-2 in front with a comfortable passage through to the 2nd Round Qualifying where they will meet Daventry Town on Saturday 23rd September at allpay.park, kick-off 3pm.
Westfields now have a busy period as they meet Leamington from the Conference North on Saturday in the FA Cup, the following Wednesday 20th September they meet Hereford FC in the HFA County Senior Challenge Cup and the following Saturday, 23rd September, they meet Daventry in the FA Vase.
Games are coming thick and fast at allpay.park at the moment but the excitement mounts ready for the FA Cup on Saturday.
