Westfields gained a fine 1-0 away win over Hereford Pegasus in the Hellenic league premier Division at Old School Lane in front of 612 spectators in a Christmas derby.

Westfields fully deserved their win as they battled for 83 minutes with 10 men after losing winger Sirdic Grant in the 7th minute for allegedly elbowing Pegasus defender Kyle Panniers.

In fact in the 3rd minute Grant should have put Westfields ahead when he chased a long through ball and his lob shot beat Ex Westfields keeper Matt Gwynne but bounced just wide of the post.

Jack Oxenham in the Westfields goal then saved well from ex Westfields winger Carlos Moreira as the game swing from end to end.

Aidan Clark then had a good chance to put Westfields  ahead as he worked an opening but his shot went wide of the far post.

The sides went in goalless at the break and after the interval Westfields were reduced to 9 men when midfield man Zac Powell was sin binned for 10 minutes when he made a comment to the match referee.

Hereford Pegasus then took the game to Westfields 9 man team and Oxenham saved well from Harry Pitman then Pitman hit the Westfields crossbar with a dipping drive then ex Westfields midfielder Pitman fired over the bar when well placed.

Westfields weathered the mini storm and Powell returned to the pitch to take Westfields back to 10 men when Westfields got the vital break through in the 78th minute when Pat Wood hit a nice ball up to Aidan Clark and he turned smartly and left his marker and raced in on goal to beat the advancing Hereford Pegasus keeper Matt Gwynne with a cracking finish with a fine right foot shot to put Westfields 1-0 ahead.

Back came Hereford Pegasus and twice Pitman wasted crosses and Cam Davies and Pat Wood got in saving tackles.

With the minutes ticking away Westfields nearly made it 2-0 when Zac Powell had a fierce drive well saved by Gwynne as Westfields finished strong with a 1-0 win and 3 valuable points to leapfrog Hereford Pegasus in the league table.
