Man of the Match: Mo Djalo
Lydney Town 2 - Sheen, Vaughan
Westfields 1 - Fuller
Westfields lost their away Hellenic League match at bottom of the table Lydney Town when the Forresters chalked up only their second league win of the season with a 2-1 win over a disappointing Westfields team.
Lydney dominated the opening half with quick slick passing and had the Westfields defence back peddling and forcing a series of corners.
It was no surprise when Lydney took the lead in the 15th minute when Westfields skipper Harrison Iddles fouled Lydney striker Ethan Vaughan and from the resulting penalty Jordan Sheen put Lydney 1-0 up from the spot.
Westfields were struggling to get into their stride but Aidan Clark had a shot cleared off the line before Westfields were reduced to 10 men when skipper Harrison Iddles was sent off for a foul on a Lydney striker with a straight red card.
Westfields were struggling to contain the lively basement side and Lydney increased their lead on the stroke of half time when Lydney striker Ethan Vaughan went on a great run beating 4 Westfields defenders before beating Shay Sterry with a clinical finish to go in 2-0 ahead at the break
After the break Westfields struggled to contain the quick moving Lydney side and Shay Sterry in the Westfields goal produced 2 quality saves to keep Westfields in the game.
Westfields were then reduced to 9 men when Luke Williams was sin binned for 10 minutes for comments made to the referee.
Westfields then got a life line when Bailey Fuller chipped the Lydney Town keeper from 25 yards to bring Westfields back into the game.
Westfields were again in trouble with the referee when this time defender Pat Wood was sin binned only minutes after Luke Williams was brought back onto the pitch.
Westfields did go all out for an equaliser but Lydney fought well for their home win and took everything Westfields threw at them.
Next week Westfields visit Cinderford Town at 3pm for another Hellenic League Premier Division game.
