Westfields kicked off the new season in style by recording a fine 2-1 away win at newly Promoted Malmesbury Victoria.
The Wiltshire side gave Westfields a real game and Danny Janes new look Westfields side had to work hard for their 3 points as he used all 5 substitutions in an action packed game.
Westfields opened up smartly with a high tempo and James Baldwin and Will Dallaway both went close to putting Westfields ahead before Matt Gwynne in the Westfields goal produced 2 superb saves to keep the score sheet blank , as Malmesbury hit back.
Westfields broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when substitute Will Beach rifled home a shot from the edge of the penalty area . Westfields had a chance to increase their lead as James Baldwin and Dan Cottrill went close.
Then just before the interval Westfields conceded an equaliser when Kam Muhid siezed on a hesitant defensive pass and gained possession to go through and beat Matt Gwynne with low drive for the teams to go in all square at the break.
After the interval Matt Gwynne produced another brilliant save before Westfields regained the lead when a long throw in by Joe Hunt caused problems in the Malmesbury defence and Dan Cottrill took his chance well
to blast the ball home from Six yards out to put Westfields ahead 2-1.
Back came Malmesbury and again Gwynne saved well to keep Westfields in front while at the other end Westfields went close as James Baldwin and substitute Jamie Clarke both caused the home defence problems.
Westfields finished the game strong by keeping possession in the later stages and fully deserved their 2-1 away win on the opening day of the season.
On Wednesday Westfields travel to Longlevens for their second Hellenic League Premier Division game of the season kick Off 7-45pm
