Man of the Match: Cam Davies
Royal Wootton Bassett 3 - Cleary, Bell, Hopkins
Westfields 0
Westfields disappointing Hellenic League run continued when they lost their 5th consecutive league game, when they were soundly beaten 3-0 away at Royal Wootton Bassett Town on Saturday.
Westfields with just 2 league wins in their last 12 league matches were no match for the lowly Wiltshire side who displayed a hard working performance to continue their rise up the league table.
However, Westfields should have opened the scoring in the early stages when Zac Powell put over a pin point cross and Raiyan Ahmed who had an easy task at the far post to score but he blasted his shot wide from 6 yards.
Wootton Bassett also had 2 good chances on the counter attack but Ben Cleary then Rudi Hopkins put good opportunities over the bar when well placed.
Royal Wootton Bassett Town finally broke the deadlock just before half time when the young side worked an opening and Ben Cleary outpaced Cam Davies to fire the ball past the advancing Ryan Smallwood in the Westfields goal to give the home side a 1-0 interval lead.
After the break Westfields looked to get level and should have done better with a Zac Powell free kick which went straight at the Bassett defending wall.
Westfields were then in trouble when they failed to clear a right wing corner and the ball fell nicely for Nathaniel Bell who struck a firm shot through a ruck of players to put the Wiltshire side 2-0 ahead.
Royal Wootton Bassett were now pushing forward with confidence and the youngsters began to open up the Westfields defence and on the hour increased their lead to 3-0 when Rudi Hopkins got on the end of a left wing cross to put Bassett into a comfortable lead.
Westfields then brought on Substitutes Sirdic Grant and Harrison Iddles in a bid to get back in the game but were then reduced to 10 men when Connor Davies-Austin committed a reckless challenge and was given a straight red card as Westfields were reduced to 10 men.
Westfields had their backs to the wall but fought well to keep the lively home side at bay as the game ended with a comfortable win for Wootton Bassett.
Westfields now meet Fairford Town at home on Tuesday kick off 7-45pm at allpay.park . Next Saturday Westfields play away at Tuffley Rovers kick off 3pm
