Royal Wootton Bassett Town: Elliot Jones o.g., Tino Shumba
Westfields: Dan Cottrill
Man of the Match: Jamie Ashmore
Westfields exited the cup following a 2-1 defeat away to Royal Wootton Bassett Town, having paid the price for a host of missed opportunities.
Fields enjoyed the majority of possession and created numerous chances throughout the game but ultimately lacked the clinical finishing needed to turn their dominance into goals.
Westfields had three clear one-on-one opportunities in the first half but failed to convert any of them. They were then gifted a setback when debutant goalkeeper Elliot Jones accidentally threw the ball into his own net to give the hosts the lead.
Westfields responded well and drew level from a Jamie Ashmore corner, with the ball finding Cottrill at the back post, who powered home an excellent header.
James Douglas thought he had completed the turnaround with a well-taken finish, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside, leaving the sides level at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Westfields enjoying plenty of possession and producing some excellent attacking play, particularly down the left. They created several more clear-cut opportunities, including three further one-on-one chances, but once again their finishing let them down.
Having failed to make their dominance count, Westfields were punished on the counter-attack when Bassett debutant Tino Shumba produced a superb finish to secure the victory and send the home side through to the next round.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Westfields, who will feel they had more than enough opportunities to win the tie but were ultimately left to rue their wastefulness in front of goal.
