Westfields 2 - Fuller (pen), Clarke
Atherstone Town 4 - Smith, Shilton, Wells, Edwards
Westfields bowed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle when they were well beaten by visiting Atherstone Town 4-2 at allpay.park on Saturday in front of 260 spectators.
Atherstone were soon on the attack and created good early chances that Jack Oxenham in the Westfields goal was alert to.
However the quick moving Atherstone attack got through the Westfields defence on half an hour and Tom Smith put them ahead with a low shot.
Atherstone almost added to their tally but Kane Kahaki made a great saving tackle to prevent the visitors increasing their lead. Just before the interval great work on the right by Bailey Fuller gave Zac Powell a great opportunity to put Westfields level but his low drive crashed against the Atherstone post and was scrambled clear as the visitors went in 1-0 up at the break.
After the interval Atherstone continued their swift movement and were 2-0 within a couple minutes of the re start when Jacob Shilton put them into a commanding lead and then the visitors put the pressure on the Westfields defence when goals by Jack Wells and Jack Edwards put them into a match winning 4-0 lead.
Westfields kept in the cup tie when Bailey Fuller pulled a goal back then as Westfields finished with a late flurry substitute Jamie Clarke scored the best goal of the game with a superb shot on the turn from 18 yards into the top corner of the Atherstone net to give the cup tie an exciting finish.
This week Westfields travel to Droitwich Town on Tuesday night and on Saturday visit Mangotsfield both for Hellenic League Premier Division League Games
