Westfields vs Cinderford Town (2026-09-22)

Westfields lost their 3rd home Hellenic League match of the season when visiting Cinderford Town ran out 2-1 winners in the local derby, in a match where Westfields wasted good opportunities with poor finishing which was their downfall.

Westfields had enough chances to have taken at least a point from an entertaining game in which Cinderford won with a penalty and a header from a corner by former Westfields player Ben Vine.

Cinderford were under early pressure and Bailey Fuller had a great chance in the first half but he shot wide of an open goal, then James Baldwin twice got in good positions but wasted the opportunities to put Westfields ahead.

At the other end Matt Gwynne made two smart saves from Jack Watts and Ryan Hillier as the sides went in goalless at the break.

After the interval Cinderford went ahead from the penalty spot when Jack Watts beat Matt Gwynne after a visitors striker had been brought down in the penalty area early in the second half.

Westfields mounted good pressure on the Forresters goal and Will Dallaway went close before Cinderford Town increased their lead when Ben Vine headed home a right wing corner to put the visitors 2-0 ahead.

Manager Dan Janes brought on 3 Westfields substitutes which resulted in pressure on the Cinderford goal but as chances went begging Westfields began to run out of time, then Westfields were awarded a late penalty when Jamie Clarke was brought down and Ben Tilbury pulled a goal back for Westfields and in a grandstand finish Cinderford held out to defend their 2-1 lead and earn 3 points to leap frog Westfields into 2nd spot in the table and leave Westfields with with just 2 league wins from their last 6 league games.
